UK place search, with free maps

I've built a UK place search API that's fast, copes with typos and understands queries like "pubs in N5", and it comes with free vector maps. This is a proof of concept, and I'm asking developers who build this kind of thing what works, what doesn't, and what would stop them using it.

SearchAutocomplete, plus a gallery of example queries: typos, local names, postcodes and "thing in place". MapResults on the map, streets and rivers drawn as lines. Click anywhere to see what's there. Near me"Pubs near me" from your location, a postcode or wherever the map is. Store finderA made-up chain with 53 branches, nearest first. Download it as one HTML file. Map stylesPick a base style and colours, then copy the code. BatchPaste 100 messy place names and get coordinates, a confidence score and flags. Developers and agentsAPI explorer, an MCP server, and docs written for LLMs.

What it's good for

Store and branch finders, "near me" search, directory and listing search, property or job search by place, and turning messy place text into coordinates in pipelines and agents. Most searches take a few milliseconds on the server, so most of what you'll notice is the network.

What it isn't for

Picking a house number at checkout ... there are no house-level addresses, so a postcode or street is as precise as it gets. It's UK only and doesn't do routing.

Tell me what you think

Every result has a "Wrong?" link that emails me the query. I'd also like to know whether you'd use this on a client project, what for, and what would stop you. Email dan@danhartropp.com, or reply to the email I sent you.
